Air Canada Purchase of Transat A.T. Inc. Could Be Imminent

Air Canada is on the verge of acquiring Transat.

In a move that will reverberate across the Canadian travel landscape, Transat AT Inc. today announced it has agreed to a 30-day period of exclusive negotiations with Air Canada. The deal would give Air Canada an even greater share of the Canadian travel market as it battles WestJet’s attempt to become a global carrier.

IHG to Launch New Upper-midscale Brand Atwell Suites

InterContinental Hotels Group plans to add a new all-suites brand, Atwell Suites, in a further step to expand its brand portfolio, it announced Wednesday.

The brand will join IHG’s other all-suite brands — including Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites — but will fall between traditional extended stay and select service hotels. Guests are encouraged to stay up to six days, and the hotel will offer complimentary breakfast and dinner options, as well as a bar in the lobby and a limited kitchenette in the suites.
