Starting This Week, It’s a Bare Fares World

It’s been a long time in coming, but it’s now a bare fares world. Bare fares are what cheeky ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit calls its stripped-down airfares: extra-cheap published ticket prices with few perks and plenty of restrictions that force travellers to pay extra for seat assignments, carry-on bags, and so on and so on. It’s a business model that flyers love to hate, but one that has made Spirit solidly profitable and a Wall Street darling.

Canadian Visitation Reaches Near-Record Levels in 2016

As America churned through its most tumultuous presidential election in recent history last year, Canada quietly enjoyed its status as a media darling. But while most of the promises by Hollywood elite, who pledged to move to Canada if the election didn’t go their way, never actually came to pass, plenty of Americans did head to Canada for a much-needed vacation. Tourism arrivals from the United States grew by healthy 10 percent last year. And it wasn’t just people fleeing the madness for a quick cross-border road trip. The number of Americans travelling by air to Canada last year grew by 17 percent over 2015, a new record for Canadian tourism.
