A brilliantly beautiful October
is drawing to a close. Memories of extended sultry summer weather added to our enjoyment of what seemed to be a never-ending Indian Summer. Alas as I write this, a cold, pelting rain is hammering my leaf-strewn roof, and telltale flakes of frost are flecking the Halloween pumpkins in my neighbourhood. Syria’s tourism on the mend
Minister of Tourism Bisher Yaziji said the tourism sector in Syria is on the mend as many tourism facilities have lately kicked into gear again. The minister’s upbeat remarks came during his meeting with a foreign delegation of parliamentarians and lawyers currently on a visit to Syria.

Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Minister Arrested
Antigua & Barbuda’s tourism minister was relieved of his duties this week by Gaston Browne, the country’s prime minister, following the former’s arrest in London. Brown revoked Asot Michael’s appointment as minister of tourism and investment for the dual-island nation pending the outcome of the latter’s arrest Monday morning by the London Metropolitan Police, according to local press reports.

WestJet Travel Partner Awards Held in Toronto
WestJet’s fifth annual Travel Partner Awards were held in Toronto Thursday night at Toronto’s Four Seasons Hotel in Yorkville. At the event, which brought out a who’s who of the Canadian travel industry for a cocktail reception and dinner, WestJet gave out a total of 13 awards, mainly related to growth.

Younger Canadian travellers focus on crossing off destinations on their bucket list and embrace the You Only Live Once attitude. But baby boomers in Canada enjoy worry-free, all-inclusive resorts and cruise trips. They also travel for more extended periods of time. So says a study by Expedia Media Solutions, the advertising arm of the Expedia group.
